Easy Math Classes for Math Minor Uf

Originally built in 1853, the University of Florida is a public grant research university located in Gainesville, Florida. The school has grown its size since then and have graduated many successful alumni, notably Tim Tebow. At UF, they offer a whole range of majors and courses. Specifically, this article will go over the 10 math courses at UF you can take!

1. MAA 4211 - Advanced Calculus I

Advanced Calculus is one of many calculus classes offered at the University of Florida. As a high level calculus course, it requires MAS 4105 (Linear Algebra) as a prerequisite. This course is taught by David Grossier. In this 3 credit course, students learn about limits, differentiation, integration and series in this class. This is a great class to take to advance your understanding of calculus.

2. MAS 4105 - Linear Algebra I

Linear Algebra is a more simple math class offered at UoF. This class teaches about linear equations, matrices, vector spaces, linear transformations, determinants and more. The professor for this course is Alex Berkovich. This is a 4 credit class that has a few choices of prerequisites. You need to have already taken MAC 2313 or MAC 3474, along with MAS 3300 or MHF 3202.

3. MAA 4226 - Intro to Modern Analysis I

Intro to Modern Analysis is an interesting class offered at the University of Florida. This class is all about metric spaces, numerical sequences and series, continuity, differentiation, and other topics. The professor for this class is Konstantina Christodouloupolou. This is a 3 credit course that has only one prerequisite: MAA 4212 (Advanced Calculus). Since this is a very in depth calculus theory class, you need at least a C in MAA 4212 to take this course.

4. MAA 4402 - Functions of a Complex Variable

Functions of a Complex Variable is a very high level math class at U of F. This class is all about complex numbers, analytic functions, Cauchy-Riemann equations, harmonic functions, elementary functions, integration, and other theories. This is taught by Alex Berkovich and Frank Garvan. Although it is a 3 credit hour class, it still has strict prerequisites. They are MAC 2313 or MAC 3474 and MAP 2302 with minimum grades of C.

5. MAC 1105 - Basic College Algebra

The easiest and lowest level math class you can take at the University of Florida is Basic College Algebra. MAC 1105 is taught by Darryl Chamberlain. This is a 3 credit course that teaches about entry level algebra, graphs and linear equations. If you need a refresher into the basics of mathematics, this is the class for you. The prerequisite to take it is the completion of the ALEKS placement exam.

6. MAD 2502 - Intro to Computational Math

Intro to Computational Math is a required math course for many computer science/engineer majors. This class teaches about analysis, number theory, combinatorics, algebra, linear algebra, numerical analysis and more. This class is taught by Andrew Vince. The prerequisite classes are MAC 2311 or MAC 3472, with at least a C. This 3 credit class is very important for computer science majors to understand how computers do math.

7. MAD 4204 -Introduction to Combinatorics I

Intro to Combinatorics is one of two combination math classes. It is a very interesting math class to take if you enjoy math that has a finite set of rules and constraints. In this 3 credit class taught by Richard Crew, students learn about binomial coefficients, inclusion-exclusion, recurrence relations, Fibonacci sequences, and other combinatoric theories.

8. MAP 2302 - Elementary Differential Equations

Elementary Differential Equations is a great math course to take if you have an interest in functions and their derivatives. This is a 3 credit course with a few prerequisites. MAP 2302 is taught by Yuli Rudyak. This class teaches students about the theory of linear ordinary differential equations, solution of linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients, the Laplace transform, and more.

9. MAP 4305 - Differential Equations for Engineers and Physical Scientists

Professor teaching students

This high level math course is specifically designed for engineers and physical scientists, unlike the previous differential equations class. This class goes more in depth into the kind of math these students will deal with in the future. This class, taught by Murali Rao, teaches about systems of linear differential equations, stability theory and phase plane analysis, power series solutions of differential equations, and more.

10. MAP 4484 - Modeling in Mathematical Biology

Another specific, high level math class is Modeling in Mathematical Biology. This class discusses the mathematics that exist in biological systems. Students in this 3 credit class taught by John Biro learn about math models of growth, predator-prey populations, competition, linearization, the chemostat, epidemics, excitable systems, and more.
